Just another collections agency?

The fundamental problem with most collections agencies is that the incentive structure does not benefit the owner of the receivable.

Imagine an account with a $100 balance remaining. If the collection agency is paid on a percentage, say 6%, then the most the agency is willing to invest in collecting that $100 is $5.99. Anything over that, they lose money. A hospital however, would be certainly be willing to invest more than $6 to collect the $100. If you are frustrated that your collection agency is "cherry picking" accounts, then you have misaligned goals.
